Spring 2010 Helpful Consignor Tips

Hello there consignors!
We want make sure that you are off to a good start with your consignment items. We are excited that the sale is right around the corner! It will be here before we know it. It’s going to be a big hit this spring in our new 7,000 sq foot location! We have more room for big items such as furniture, strollers, bikes, cribs, etc. You will want to keep this post to refer back to it as you begin the process.
NOW is the time (if you haven’t begun already!) to start pulling SPRING & SUMMER items out of your closets! Our suggestion would be to arrange it all into categories for example….. toys first, then baby gear second, then clothes, etc. Categorizing makes it much more organized and easier on you. Make sure they are clean, pressed, buttoned, and if needed, have batteries that work. Appearance is what is going to make your items sell.
Crunched for time? Take advantage of our valet service where we do everything for you. All you need to do is contact us at info@SmartyPantsConsignment.com and tell us you want to utilize the valet service. We make it easy for the super busy! Last Day to request Valet Service is Feb 26!

- SPREAD THE WORD to all your friends and family about shopping at the sale! Tell them to visit www.SmartyPantsConsignment.com for a full schedule of dates and location and most importantly tell them to GET IN LINE EARLY THURS. MORNING FOR THE BEST DEALS!
- You have until TONIGHT, MARCH 7th at midnight to enter all your items into the computer.
- SASE: Don’t forget to bring your SASE (Self Addressed Stamped Envelope)to your drop off appointment. Should you forget we will provide you with one and a $1 will be taken out of your consignor check after the sale.
- Many questions have arised about spring/summer vs fall/winter items that we will accept. We will be accepting everything EXCEPT winter/snow gear, heavy coats, Thanksgiving or Christmas attire. If an outfit looks particularly fall or winter “ish” then hang onto it for the next sale.
- 20 Items or $100 worth of items. Remember…. You MUST have 20 or $100 at your scheduled drop off appointment in order to get your pre-sale passes.
- Volunteers: PLEASE HELP!!! We still need a couple volunteers on Thursday & Friday night! Sign up on our website.
- Drop OFF Expectations: Make sure you have scheduled a drop off time via our website. When you arrive there is a 15 min. loading zone in front of the building. You can park here and come in and ask for a rolling cart, get your items and bring them in. After you bring them in then please go and park your car while we are inspecting your items. (Expect that some items will not be accepted due to quality… We are very strict on this! Please be understanding as this is necessary to allow SmartyPants remain a great place to shop.) As you come back in we will be handing you the inspected items to place in the appropriate places. Before you leave you need to make sure you check out and get your pre-sale passes. Remember…. to get those pre-sale passes you MUST HAVE 20 items or $100 worth of items.

- Tagging:

- Print tags must be on WHITE CARD STOCK with BLACK INK.
- Attach your tags with SAFETY PINS to the left side of clothing with the hangers pointing in the direction that makes a question mark. (?)
- Outfits should be securely attached to one another (and the hanger) and only need one tag.
- Use clear packing tape to secure tags on all non-clothing items.
- When printing your bar codes, please make sure that they will be readable by our scanner. They need to be the original size, and the bar codes cannot be smudged or split in any way. WE CANNOT SELL YOUR ITEMS IF THE SCANNER CAN’T READ THEM.

- Make sure everything is clean, in good working condition, and that all necessary items have working batteries.
- WE NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY!!!!! Please consider! It is our volunteers that make the sale run smoothly! Thanks so much to those of you who have already signed up…. way to go and we can’t wait to see you!
- Got Wrinkles? Just before you bring your clothing items to the sale, it is a great idea to spray them down with Downy Wrinkle Release! It not only smoothes out the wrinkles but makes them smell snuggly fresh too!
- Make sure you are using appropriately sized hangers for clothing. Kids hangers for kids stuff, adult hangers for maternity, etc.
- OLD NAVY is still giving out FREE HANGERS. Just stop by and ask. They know we are coming!
- Please make sure all buttons are buttoned, zippers zipped, shoe laces tied. That way you won’t have to when you get to the site and you can be done with inspections faster.
Helpful Tips of The Week…. THREE WEEKS LEFT
- 20 OR $100: In order to receive a consignor pre-sale pass we are asking that you have at least 20 items OR $100 worth of items. But of course…. the more you enter, the more you will make!
- Don’t Wait Until The Last Minute!!! Work on it now and then as the sale gets closer you will find more and more to keep adding to your list! The last thing you want is to be entering items in and then finding that you don’t have enough time to get it all logged in.
- You have until SUNDAY, MARCH 7th at midnight to enter all your items into the computer.
- Price your items to SELL!!!! This is why SmartyPants Events are so great…. families come to get great deals.
- We recommend that you DISCOUNT most of your items! You can do this by checking the box as you are entering your items.
- Create an outfit and sell as one. Grouped items sell first. Everyone loves a good deal on an outfit.
- Volunteer! We especially need volunteers on opening day, Thursday the 11th. This is one of the most exciting shifts! We also still need a lot of help on Friday the 12th. WE LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS! THEY MAKE THE SALE SUCCESSFUL AND THEY MAKE up to 80%!
- More than 100 items? We strongly suggest you sign up for more than 1 drop off appointment! It takes approximately 10 minutes to inspect 100 items.
- Returning Consignors: Once you log in to the consignor page you can move old inventory that didn’t sell and make it as ACTIVE inventory so that you don’t have to reprint tags again! Just make sure that you do not alter any information as it is already embedded into the old bar code.

HANGERS!
- Take advantage of Old Navy giving out their FREE spare children’s hangers! You need to call and make your request and do it early as they will run out right before the sale starts. A few other places that occasionally give out childrens hangers include: The Macys outlet (just stop by) at Karcher Mall, Babies R Us (be sure to call), and Shopko (You have to specifically request childrens hangers or you will get a whole slew of adult hangers!)
