The Details…
As a consignor, this is the area that you will want to spend most of your time on. The better you present your merchandise, the more likely it will sell. Please take the time to review this information carefully so that you can maximize your profits and help save you time. If you have not done so already, make sure you also view our Accepted Items list.
Getting Prepared
- Please double check to make sure you have at least 20 items that are worth $100 or more in order to consign at the SmartyPants Sales Event.
- The minimum amount for any items is $2.00. You may need to group a few small items together in order to reach this amount.
- Clothing must be clean, free of stains, tears, excessive wear or pilling & smell fresh and the styles should be current.
- Clothes need to be hung on hangers. When the item is facing you, the hanger should look like a question mark (?), with the open-end facing to the left.
- Please close all zippers, buttons, snaps, and ties.
- All socks and tights must be securely attached to matching outfit.
- Clothing tags should be safety pinned with medium sized safety pins (NO straight pins or small safety pins). Place tags on LEFT side of each piece. (See diagram below)
- Place all items in gender and size order when dropping off.
- Safety pin all sets and accessories securely together with pants hung on the back of the shirt at the waist sp that they are viewable. Please do not layer your sets.
- Shoes must be in excellent condition with very little wear inside or out. Securely tie or clip them together. Zip ties are the best method. Please do not bring them in a box or in a bag.
- Tags on all items besides clothing should be attached with clear packing tape.
- Bedding items need to be attached in one clear bag. Pin all loose items to the large pieces.
- Blankets should be pinned over the hangers so that they are visible. If they are small receiving blankets you may need to pin a few together to reach your $2.00 minimum.
- Toys, puzzles, games and videos must have all pieces and be in good working condition. Loose pieces must be attached in a plastic zip lock bag with packing tape. All batteries must work and be included.
- Please make sure that when you enter your items that you indicate if you want the item discounted for 1/2 price day.
Caution! The consignor is responsible for checking for recalled items. Please check our recalls page for more information.
Shopping List: You can find most of these items at the dollar store.
- Clear Packing Tape (To tape non-hanging items)
- Children’s hangers
- White Card Stock Paper – MUST BE WHITE CARDSTOCK! Copy paper will fall off.
- Safety Pins (1 inch and bigger work best)
- Plastic Zip Lock Bags; Sandwich sized and gallon sized that seal.
- Small Zip Ties (to securely tie shoes together)
Pricing
The minimum amount for any item to consign is $2.00. As the consignor, it is your responsibility for setting the prices for your items. If you want to discount your items 50% for the last day of sale, just check the appropriate box when creating your tags available through consignor registration.
We have developed a guide that will help steer you in the right direction as far as what to price each item. There are just a few things to keep in mind. You can typically price clothing at 1/2 -1/4 of the retail price. Just keep in mind the brand and quality of the items. There are typically three different types of pricing levels:
- Standard: Carters, Circo, Kid Connection, Lee, Levi, Old Navy, Faded Glory, Simply Basic, etc.
- Upscale: Baby Gap, Gymboree, Limited Too, Koala Kids, Ralph Lauren, Osh Kosh, Nike, etc.
- Boutique: Hanna Anderson, Madeleine, Baby Nay, Mini Boden, Mini Man, Baby Lulu, Halabaloo, etc.
Full Price vs. Half Price: The last day of the sale is our 50% off day. When you are pricing your items make sure you price them at the lowest you would take. Then you have the option of letting them go for half that amount on the last day. If you do not want to go any lower that what you have them priced then simply do not check the discount box when entering items.
Remember: You are clearing out your closet! Price the items to move, not return to your closet at the end of the sale! Presentation is key! Iron and press each clothing item, clean toys, and make everything look appealing and tidy.
When pricing, please only use increments of .50 or 1.00 that are above the $2.00 mark. If you have items less than $2.00 then combine a few items to reach the $2.00 minimum.

Tagging Items

Tagging is easy. Our online systems allow you to do just about everything from your own home.
- If you have not done so already, be sure you are registered as a NEW CONSIGNOR or RETURNING CONSIGNOR & view a complete list of ACCEPTABLE ITEMS here.
- Upon registering you will be given a consignor number, then log in here to ENTER ITEMS & PRINT TAGS.
- Printed tags must be on WHITE CARD STOCK with BLACK INK.
- Attach your tags with SAFETY PINS to the left side of clothing with the hangers pointing in the direction that makes a question mark. (?)
- Outfits should be securely attached to one another and only need one tag.
- Use clear packing tape to secure tags on all non-clothing items.
- When printing your bar codes, please make sure that they will be readable by our scanner.
Tagging Lingo

Reading our tags and understanding the symbols.
- Top Left: This is an example of where your consignor number will be.
- Top Right: Specific Sizing. Please double check to make sure you have listed the correct size.
- Middle: You will have TWO description lines. List the Brand Name and Color and What Type of Item. (This makes it easier to find the item should a tag fall off.) Customers also like to see if the item is “new with tags” or “only worn once” if this applies.
- Mid Left: “D” stands for Donate. If the item does not sell you have the option to Donate it. Simply check the appropriate box when entering your items. If you choose not to donate then it will appear blank.
- Mid Center: Item # is the numerical order of items that you entered.
- Mid Right: This indicates the price and the star is optional if you wish to have discounted 50% on the last day of the sale. You must check the appropriate box when entering items for it to be discounted. This must be done through this feature. The information gets embedded into the bar code for our scanners to read. DO NOT HAND WRITE A STAR!
- Bottom Row: Scanner and Administration information.
Inventory Pickup
Please make sure that you arrive at your assigned time to pick up your items that did not sell. If you plan on donating your unsold items, then you do not need to have a time assigned for pick up. Consignor numbers will be checked upon exiting.
Lost and Found
We do our best at coaching our consignors how to properly secure items and attach labels. Unfortunately from time to time things get lost or detached. Upon picking up your unsold inventory, please make sure you check the lost and found area at the scheduled pickup time.
