Acceptable & Unacceptable Items

SmartyPants strives to bring the absolute highest quality children’s items possible. Therefore it is imperative that we thoroughly check every item that enters onto our sales floor. We kindly ask that you help us to ensure maximum quality by checking all your items before dropping them off. As a good rule of thumb, always ask yourself, “At this price, would I buy this for my kid?” Below is a list that will help you identify what we accept and what we will NOT accept. Again, this is to help maintain the best quality possible for all our wonderful SmartyPants customers.

Unacceptable Items…  These WILL NOT be accepted:

  • Underwear: Only brand new underwear sealed in original package are accepted.
  • Used maternity undergarments such as bras.
  • Extreme out of season clothing except for sizes 0-3T. (No Snow suits in spring/summer sale!)
  • Outdated Clothing. (No parachute pants please!)
  • Absolutely no liquid, perishable items, or medicines of any kind, also including lotions and creams.
  • Stuffed animals UNLESS they are battery operated, Disney, or popular children’s characters
  • Used baby feeding utensils (unless in original unopened packaging)
  • Worn out clothing with excessive fading or lint balls, torn clothing, items with missing buttons, or broken snaps, etc.
  • Any items that are recalled (You as the consignor are responsible for checking if you have any recalled items. Recall info here).
  • Freebie Items such as sample formula, unless grouped with other similar non-freebie items.

Acceptable Items…  These WILL be accepted:

  • NEW! We now accept car seats with specific criteria. Click HERE for details.
  • Diaper Pails if they are ONLY IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND HAVE BEEN STRONGLY SANITIZED. (Yes… it has to pass the “sniff” test!)
  • In season and in style children’s and maternity clothing.
  • Sizes 0 to 18 for girls and 0 to 18 for boys. Please mark all clothing in actual sizes rather than S, M, L.
  • NEW! Junior sizes 0-14 for girls and 28-36 for boys and S-XL for both genders. Acceptable shoes include junior girls size 5-11 and junior boys size 7-14.
  • Make sure that clothes are clean, pressed and in “new” or “like new” condition.
  • All Maternity clothing must be in quality condition and in style. It must be MATERNITY clothing labeled in sizes S, M, L, etc.
  • Shoes MUST BE  in like new condition. Some wear is expected on soles but should be stain free inside and out.
  • Accessories that are grouped together to reach the $2 price such as belts, hair items, etc.
  • Baby Equipment such as strollers, activity centers, bumbo, highchairs, Pack N Play, etc.
  • Baby Care Items including baby carriers, Boppy pillows, baby monitors, safety products, etc.
  • Furniture and baby/children’s decor that include changing tables, rocking chairs, gliders, cribs, bassinets, toddler beds, dressers, etc.
  • Toys with working batteries in them.  All pieces must be present and sealed in zip lock bag and taped securely to item. Puzzles can be wrapped in plastic wrap and taped shut. Small items can be put together in a zip lock bag to meet the $2.00 minimum. Please no Happy Meal toys or giveaway toys.
  • Sports related items
  • Costumes or dress up outfits with all loose items securely attached in a zip lock bag and then pinned to the main item.
  • Puzzles, Books, Games, VHS & DVD’s that are rated PG-13, PG, or G.
  • Baby Feeding products must be NEW and in original packaging. Baby Food/Formula must be in original sealed package and not expired. Utensils, sippy cups, etc. (Bibs are accepted with no stains.)
